We Could Be Heroes…

Recorded live in front of a studio audience! Things are rolling here at the Charlotte convention center. I’m in artist’s alley at table 1101. Thought I was going to be across from the men’s room, but I’m actually a bit further back. See, I’m already moving up in the world!
Due to popular demand, we’ve got Dr. 13 prints, as well as sketches, and a cool little flyer I whipped up. Come by and pick one up.
It’s about 2 pm, and I just finished my first sketch! That can’t be right…

High
Originally, I was planning to do an image of Kraven vs. Spidey for HeroesCon, but I’m glad Black Cat won out. I really liked “Kraven’s Last Hunt”, but it was a lot more fun drawing this than 2 dudes trying to kill each other…

All Cats Are Grey?
As I’ve mentioned before, I’ll be at HeroesCon again this year. Shelton Drum and his crew are honestly some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, the fans are great, and I’m particularly looking forward to hanging out with my friend Dusty Harbin. This year’s themes for the program book are the Silver Surfer and, you guessed it, black costume Spider-Man. Here’s my initial sketch. The finished piece will be going into the Heroes Art Auction, which helps keep the con running and allows Shelton to offer such amazing ticket prices. Please come!

Feels like summer…
I finished Dr. Thirteen a couple weeks ago, so since then I’ve been working on getting things in order for convention season. Check the signings link on the left for more info about where I’ll be this summer.
This year, I’ll be part of the Splash Page Art sketchbook, set to debut at San Diego Comic-Con. Splash Page Art is my original art dealer, and home to many other talented artists, including Lee Bermejo, Duncan Fegredo, Marcelo Frusin, Jock, Michael Lark, John Paul Leon, Sean Phillips, Paolo Rivera, Cameron Stewart, Goran Sudzuka, and Eric Wight. We’ll be putting together a special sketchbook for the summer, featuring 3 pieces each from some of the artists in the Splash Page stable. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.
Here’s my contribution to the book, in pencil form. I’ll post the inks soon, but here’s a sneak peek.

Splash Page will be selling the originals in the near future, so if you like any of these pieces, be sure to contact Mark Hay at Splash Page. And if you’re at the convention, pick up a copy of the book and get it signed by me and the other guys.

Cinder and Ashe
Does anyone remember this book? A four issue, mature readers mini-series published by DC in 1988, Cinder and Ashe featured the fine drafting of Jose Luis Garcia Lopez. Though I’ve always admired his artwork, I’ve discovered a new appreciation over the past year for his layouts and storytelling. (more…)

Black Magik Woman
Currently finishing up the last pages of Dr. Thirteen. I’d love to post some of that artwork, but the story does get zanier and more surprising, so I’d be spoiling some of the best bits. Inspired by Mike Wieringo’s awesome sketch blog, I’m going to try and do some regular pieces just for the website. This’ll give me a chance to draw some characters I haven’t tackled before, as well as talk about some of my inspirations. (more…)
