Gimme A Beat!

ControlIf you read any X-Men comics in the 80′s, you probably have a soft spot for mohawk Storm. I also have a soft spot for Janet Jackson, so the two seem like a natural fit. I actually pencilled this last year, but only recently got around to inking and coloring it.
Hey, if you’re in the Seattle area this weekend, I’ll be appearing at the Emerald City Comicon, March 4-6. Come find me at table D-17! I’ll be doing sketches and will have prints and postcards, too. As a reminder, my commission list fills up pretty fast so try to find me early. On Saturday I may take names for Sunday as well. See you there!

This is absolutely fantastic! I love mohawk Storm so much and Control was one of the coolest album covers of the 80s. The two together just works so insanely well!

Someone is totally ripping off your idea and making them into t-shirts. 12 in remix is so much better!

Thanks so much for the heads up. To be honest, I don’t feel like my idea was 100% original to begin with (CB Cebulski and Jason Pearson did Johns Hughes posters on “Loners” a couple years before
me), but I REALLY appreciate your looking out for me. Those shirts are a fun visual mash-up like the Star Wars Nagel posters (and man, is it hard to draw like Nagel), whereas I try to draw more connections between the characters and history to make an extended gag. There’s room for all of it!

You are a class act, Cliff. And I may have jumped the gun in calling them a rip off. Uninspired maybe… Your parodies are just leaps and bounds better than these tees, for reasons you state, and 12 In. Remix plain looks better. It’s more unfortunate for Mighty Fine Tees that you did such a better job, and years before even!

Perfect! Weather “Control”. This reminds me again why (nothing against Halle Berry) Janet Jackson really should have been cast as Storm in the X-Men movies. She has the perfect cheekbones for it, too. Dave Cockrum’s original design for Storm has those cherubic cheekbones.

Loving all these album remixes.
