NYCBM 2010 Sketches

DeathGolden Age Wonder WomanRobinSupergirl LPIn spite of the cold and slushy streets, action at the New York Comic Book Marketplace was surprisingly brisk.  Run by the old Big Apple Con crew, the NYCBM was pretty much the same show they’ve put on reliably for the last few years. Thanks again to Allan Rosenberg and Mike Carbonaro for the hospitality, and a big shout out to table neighbors Sean Chen, Ivan Brandon and Andy Macdonald, and JH Williams! Anyone who can guess the gatefold LP the Supergirl sketch is based on gets a slightly dusty, vintage No-Prize!

Armed Forces

loose-lips.jpgrebuild-death-star.jpgThe Star Wars Galaxy 5 trading card set is finally on sale this week. Here are the 2 other pieces I drew for my Imperial Propaganda set, following the Enlist Today poster I put up earlier. I’d love to revisit this idea from the Rebel point of view, too. Maybe next time?

New York Comic Book Marketplace

I’ll be appearing at the New York Comic Book Marketplace this Saturday, February 27.  It’s run by the same people who put on the Big Apple shows, and it’s even being held in the old Penn Pavilion spot. More details in the link. Come and say hello!

You’re such a strange girl, I think you come from another world

supergirl50.jpg Supergirl #50 is on sale this week. I drew the 6-page backup written by Jake Black and Supergirl herself, Helen Slater. It’s too bad it was so short, since it took a few pages before I felt comfortable drawing her, but it turned out great thanks to the stunning colors provided by Dave McCaig. Check it out and lemme know what you think.

Army of Me

enlist-today.jpgI recently drew a set of 3 Imperial Propaganda posters for the new Star Wars Galaxy 5 trading card set. I hadn’t intended to do more than one, but the ideas came fast and furious and the editor loved them all. This enlistment poster was actually based on an old war bonds poster. While using Nazi propaganda would’ve been appropriate, it was actually more engaging for me to try and create posters that cast the Empire as saviors of the galaxy, especially on the heels of the Death Star 9/11 short. The card backs also have some quotes from me in the guise of an unapologetic Imperial sympathizer. A really fun gig, and I hope to do more of these in the future. I’ll post the others when the cards go on sale next month.

You’ve Got Everything Now

genius.jpgSome of you eagle-eyed readers may have noticed the SHOP link that went up quietly a couple months back.  Khepri.com is selling comics and exclusive items from creators like Brian Wood, Becky Cloonan, Ryan Kelly, Jamie McKelvie and me, as well as books from my comrades at Standard Attrition.  In addition to our comics, there are t-shirts, limited edition sketchbooks and art prints (and we’ll also be running a sketch raffle from me in the coming months). Some of these special items are only available online through Khepri, so take a look around!
