Don’t You Forget About Me
“Dear Batman: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in Bat-detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you’re crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is an archer, and a speedster, and a swimmer, a princess, and an acrobat. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Teen Titans.”
Thank you, John Hughes. Rest in peace.

@Richard Howe – I think Robin is occupying the Ally Sheedy spot. I think Aqualad would make a better Ally Sheedy character comparison.
Robin would make a better “Anthony Michael Hall”

Wow, that’s terrific!!!
On the subject of John Hughes however, Sixteen Candles set the Asian American community back 20 years. I wonder how many Asians shared my experience of sitting in the theatre and just cringing at the sight of Geddes Watanabe, the walking Asian Minstrel show and his performance. I’m sorry for the family of John Hughes and the people who lost him. But I don’t mourn him at all.

Very cool poster. That would make a very cool movie or spin-off of Smallville…What a loss with John Hughes passing…

I’ve never seen 16 CANDLES in its entirety, but I’ve seen enough to know that Gedde Watanabe is the Asian Steppin Fetchit and John Hughes was a modern-day D.W Griffiths.
Maybe Hughes did balance the scales some every time he cast John Candy as the fat Midwestern rube. But only if Hughes ever went to Asia and had people call him “Uncle Buck”.
I’ll give the last word to Adrian Tomine:

Growing up, I was never called “Donger” myself — just lucky, I guess — but I share the collective pain of Asian dudes everywhere. That said, I do enjoy the surly, hungover Long Duk Dong at the end of the movie. It’s not much, but it does signal a certain amount of frustration with his host family and needing to keep up appearances (of a sort). In MY “director’s cut”, we would find out after the credits that Dong speaks perfect English and is scamming people, Borat-style, and getting free room and board to boot. Cut! Print!

As an Asian-American male, I did receive the occasional taunt derived from “Sixteen Candles” while growing up. However I believe the library of good John Hughes movies and soundtrack songs brought more joy to my life than pain.
All is forgiven if only for introducing me to New Order.
