NYCC 2009 Sketches

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the table this past weekend.  It was great to see all the double takes when people saw the Batgirl piece — look for more of that kind of thing this summer. I plan on laying low until Heroes Con in June (see the signings link), but that should give me some time to come up with a few more pieces. Thanks, too, for all the wonderful sketch requests.  Here’s this year’s batch!

those sketches are freaking amazing. Dig the Lanterns a lot and especially Gogo Yubari, totally didn’t see that one coming.

Thanks! Yeah, Gogo was a surprise for me too. I think it turned out well, but I wouldn’t mind another shot. Or a chance to draw any of the other Kill Bill characters for that matter!

Looks like an interview you did from NYCC finally made it up on Newsarama. http://www.newsarama.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=26571

Really awesome, well I don’t like the stack guys, but you were awesome at any rate. So it got mentioned briefly in that interview but I had been curious a long time, do use a brush to ink your stuff?

Wow, it’s weird to see my mug on Newsarama. But thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, I do use a brush to ink 90% of my stuff, though I’ll break out a Micron for backgrounds and small figures. It’s basically a “Pentel Color Brush” which I’ve refilled with Pelikan Drawing Ink. Works great!

Awesome! I actually brought you up to some friends as my favorite working artist out right now and I said I used a brush because I was trying to get that same look and one asked if you used one. Then I wasn’t sure so thanks for the info, now I can have the satisfaction of knowing I was right all along, haha.

Great stuff as always! The Black Cat is awesome, but the background negative ink Spidey is CRAZY!!! That’s some incredible inkwork! Your GA/BC piece continues to hold a place of honour in my collection! I noticed a gap in the summer, so hopefully that means you’ll be at the Canadian Expo in August!
