Thanks to everyone who came and said hello this past weekend in Charlotte. A couple quirky sketch subjects this time around, and quite a few Fables requests, too. The show was another great success and I’m already looking forward to next year. Special thanks to Heroes owner Shelton Drum, showrunner Dusty Harbin, the ever-dependable Doug Merkle, and a shout out to Bill Maio, Jim Clancy, and Rico Renzi! See you in ‘09!

It’s Hard To Be A Saint In The City
I don’t get to draw Marvel characters very often, so I use the HeroesCon art auction as an excuse to scratch that itch. Wanna see the original? Make your way to Charlotte, NC on June 20-22 for one of the best comic conventions around. I’ll be there, sketching and maybe even jumping onto a panel discussion. And if you’ve had enough of me, there’s huge guest list, including Jason Aaron, Darwyn Cooke, Michael Lark, and Jaime Hernandez. Drop by and say hello!

The Bends
Green Arrow & Black Canary #9 is on sale next week. This cover was a tough one. I know everybody loooves Plasticman (those Jack Cole and Kyle Baker stories are great), but he usually works best in his own world, with his own rules. I didn’t want to do a straight-up gag cover but hopefully, Black Canary and Green Arrow catching some righteous air is fun without being too hokey. The trees were more complicated than I had anticipated, and I had to add a few branches digitally to get the right amount of depth. Click on the image for pencils and inks.
