Giant Size Dr. 13!
Wow, that was quick! A collection of the Dr. Thirteen stories is in the upcoming Diamond Previews catalog, with a scheduled in-store date of Sept. 19th. I can’t wait to see how the final book turns out. We’ve got some extra goodies, all wrapped up in a brand spanking new cover (which I proudly yanked for my banner image). We had a few other really strong/funny ideas for the cover (which we’ll hopefully show in the trade), but my sentimental favorite won out: a bizarre combination of Superfriends and Joy Division. The final design hasn’t been worked out yet, but hopefully it’ll retain that Peter Saville feel. The whole project has had quite a few musical references, from the title “Architecture and Mortality” to the character designs (Adam Ant + Duran Duran = Captain Fear), in dialogue (see issue 4) and even some of Azzarello’s panel descriptions in the script. Just part of why this goofy project feels more personal to me than most! That, and the oral sex jokes.
Hey, someone said they wanted a desktop image, so here it is, in 4 different flavors!

I already have all the single issues but I’ll still get this one for sure. I’m glad DC decided to collect this one.
Too bad Josie Mac has never been collected.

I’m hoping they will collect “Josie Mac” at some point. As far as I know, there aren’t any plans, but you never know!

I skipped the miniseries, but was hoping for a TPB of the Dr. 13 stories, since reviews seemed overwhelmingly positive. I’ll definitely be picking this up.
And that cover is awesome.

Wow, Thanks! Can’t wait for the trade.
I’m curious to hear more about the musical references. Is there going to be any sort of annotation in the back describing such? If not, you should definitely post some of that trivia here. Maybe do an “Architecture and Mortality Annotations” type thing when the book comes out?

That’s a pretty cool idea. My guess is that it wouldn’t make it into the book for legal reasons, but maybe we’ll get a chance to talk about some of that stuff in interviews when the book comes out. the funny thing is, I keep finding stuff that I didn’t even know was a reference when I was drawing it!
